Do you even give your social media profile descriptions a second thought these days? Probably not.
But you should, so let's spiffy them up shall we?
The 10-Minute Touch Up is a quick, weekly challenge to get you DOING, not just reading about doing. Consider it a way to touch up your blogging just 10 minutes at a time!
Challenge: Clean up (and maybe even add) your bios on your social media accounts.
Why: Whether it's Twitter, Pinterest, or Instagram, your social media profile is often the first place someone gets a little insight into who you are or what you blog about. AKA why they should follow you. Don't blow your first impression with a lame profile, or worse yet, no profile at all.
How to Do It
It's easy stuff.
1. Never leave a profile blank.
Well, if you actually want people to follow you (or follow you back), you MUST say something in your profile. How are they supposed to know you're awesome and all that by just your name?
2. Use keywords.
Weave in some keywords into your bio as some social media profiles are searchable. For example, if you're a mom blogger who hopes to work for kid-friendly or family brands, then say “mom blogger.” If you're an entrepreneur, then say it! Mine has the words blogger, e-course and social media in it cause that's important to me.
3. Bring your work into it.
If you're an author, work for a cool brand (and they're cool with you saying so), contribute to a publication or website, or are a long-term brand ambassador, go ahead and mention it in your bio! It helps to lend credibility.
4. Add a little zing.
That “zing” could be a fun fact, something humorous, something clever, or something very unique. In many cases, it's something that'll likely spark up a conversation.
Here's mine on Twitter:
Owner of Blog Clarity. Author of Blog Design for Dummies. Asst Manager of Digital Brand Engagement @burtsbees. & my boys have the same bday 3 yrs apart. Whaa?
I can't tell you how many times people have followed me on Twitter and immediately said something about my kids having the same birthday!
On Instagram, I go a slightly different direction given the audience, using emoji throughout (and to spell out I Love Coffee.)

Did you have any that were blank? What changes did you make?
